A Message Regarding 2012
2012 has arrived with relief that the old year has gone, and yet with uncertainty as to
what lies ahead. Many hope for improved conditions in the economy and for an end to
difficulties in their lives. But what is the Lord saying to us about this year? As I’ve prayed
for 2012, God has led me to Hebrews 12:26-28. Here are three truths I believe the Lord
has shown me about 2012 from this passage:
Everything that can be shaken will be shaken.
2011 saw unprecedented shaking in the world. Natural disasters shook the earth from
Japan to the US. Economic shaking rattled the nations of Europe. Governments shook
across the Middle East and North Africa, as long-standing rulers fell before angry mobs.
Don’t expect this shaking to end. We have started on a road from which we cannot
return. “All of creation will be shaken and removed,” Hebrews 12:27 declares. Turmoil in
nature, in nations, and in men will continue unabated from now till Jesus comes again.
(Luke 21:25-27)
God’s kingdom cannot be shaken.
God is sovereign and almighty! He rules in the affairs of the nations. He is above all the
turmoil, and his is “a Kingdom that is unshakable.” (Hebrews 12:28) The fall of a leader,
the collapse of a nation, the end of a currency – none of those things undermine his
authority or shake his rule. God is not surprised by any news event. He has the world in
his hands and our lives in his control.
Psalm 33:9-11 “For He spoke and it came to be; He commanded and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations. He thwarts the purposes of the peoples, but the plans of the Lord stand firm forever; the purposes of His heart through all generations.”
Receive God’s unshakable kingdom and become unshakable.
Hebrews 12:28 urges us to “receive” God’s unshakable kingdom – and “worship God
acceptably.” Now more than ever we need to anchor our lives deep in the word and will
of God. It’s time to hold loosely the things of this world, and to cling to the eternal rock of
ages. Jesus Christ is our sure foundation, a tried and tested cornerstone. He is the only
foundation for our lives which will weather every storm. When the unshakable kingdom
of God comes to take up rule in your heart, you will be unshakable in 2012!
